فى أول يوم من أيام مونديال الكرة الحديدية المقام فى مدينة أزمير التركية عاد المنتخب الموريتاني بقوة بعد أن ضيع مباراته الأولى ضد جمهورية بنين ب 12 نقطة مقابل 13 وحقق فوزين كبيرين الأول على لبنان بنتيجة 13 مقابل 8 والثانى ضد الجارة السنغال بنتيجة ثقيلة 13 مقابل 5 ليقطع شوطا كبيرا نحو الدور الثانى .
ومن المنتظر أن يلعب المنتخب الوطني مباراتين متبقيتين من الدور الأول وفى حالة فوزه بإحداهما يتأهل مباشرة إلى الدور الثانى .
نشير إلى أن فرنسا حاملة اللقب خسرت مباراتها الأولى أمام سويسرا وتتصدر بلجيكاالترتيب العام للفرق بعد فوزها بثلاث مباريات .
الإتحادية الدولية للكرة الحديدية استحدثت هذا العام نظاما جديدا للإقصائيات ينص على أن يلعب كل فريق فى الدور الأول 5 مباريات ويتأهل 24 وعشرون فريقا من أصل 48 إلى الدور الثانى من المونديال فيماتلعب الفرق المتبقية بطولة الأمم الموازية للمونديال .
